BEACHES OF LASSITHI

North coast

  • Μirambelo gulf is one of the most developed tourist centres of the Mediterranean region, with thousands of visitors from around the world. From its excellent and highly organized beaches the following stand out:
    Close to Ayios Nikolaos: the beaches of Vathi (8Km south of the city), of Αlmyros (3Km south of the city), of Αmmoudi (1Km north of the city) and Κitroplatia next to Marina.
    In the area of Εlounda: the beach of the islet of Κοlokitha and the beach of Skisma in Elounda.
    At the south of the gulf: the popular beach of Vοulissma (or Golden Sand), 15Km SE of Ayios Nikolaos, and, next to it, Pilos beach (or Istron Bay).

  • In the area of Sitia, the extended sandy beach SE of the town stands out.

 

East coast

  • The exotic Vai and Εrimoupoli (Ιtanos), at the NE end of the island, are famed for the palm tree groves and their excellent sandy beaches.

  • A bit southwards, in the area of Paleokastro, the extended, windy, sandy beaches of Hiona and Kouremenos are popular among the surfers.

  • At ΚatoΖakros, next to Minoan palace, we meet a nice beach, and after this the beaches of Ksirokampos.

 

South coast

  • Αmong the busy and organized beaches of the area these of Μyrtos (15Km west of Ierapetra), of Αyia Fotia (16Km east of Ierapetra) and of Μakriyialos (26Km east of Ierapetra) are the most noted.

  • Among the more peaceful or secluded ones, stands out the exotic beaches of Koufonissi islet. You can reach the islet by boat from Makriyialos. There you will discover one of the most scenic marine settings of Greece.

  • Yet, the top destination of the south of Lassithi is the famous islet of Chryssi, south of Ierapetra. The exotic beauty of its beaches has made it world renowned.
