On the island of Kea exert static beekeeping unlike the nomadic exercising most beekeepers in Greece . This means that the cells remain in one place over the time and bees exploit the flowering of this region. Although the method of static beekeeping is not as efficient as the nomadic , mainly on the islands of the Cyclades there is no other option as flowering is specific to the entire surface of the island, while the transfer of bees in mainland Greece is very expensive .
The advantage of this way of course is that the bees stay away from areas where pesticide use is likely , while limited and illnesses since beekeeping due to sea level, is more isolated .
Kea , as in most of the Cyclades , mainly exploit the flowering native plants with this basic thyme . Thyme is a native shrub that grows in rocky and barren soil medium and low altitude . The flower is very popular in bees and gives us the famous honey . Although essentially flower honey , thyme honey honey a separate category because of its intense flavor and smell which gives the thyme , which overrides any other flower gathered by the bees , the viscous texture than other flower honeys .
