Avli is settled inside an 18th century mansion with a private garden, in the old town of Malia. We took great consideration of the traditional architecture and structure of the buildings of the era when we fully renovated it to create a restaurant where guests can taste traditional flavours and feel the authentic Cretan hospitality. Enjoy your dinner and a glass of selected, fine wine in a garden (“avli”) filled with honeysuckles and jasmines...
We focus on choosing the right, pure and fresh local ingredients and be loyal to a traditional way of cooking. We daily bake our own bread in our wood oven as well as most of our meals including our home made “galaktoboureko” dessert.
Tender beef, slow-cooked in our wood burning oven rolled in aubergines with local Gruyere cheese, pork shank with local homemade pasta or salmon with strawberry sauce ... are some of our dishes, out of our wide list which is frequently adjusted to seasonal ingredients.
Our effort for evolution in a healthy, Cretan and Mediterranean diet, ends in our kitchen but starts in the field. We take care of the ingredients used and invest in their quality by keeping our own, private fields where we practice ethical agriculture with absolute respect for the environment and without any use of chemicals.
